Tuskegee loses grasp on Homecoming game

Tuskegee had trouble with offense and loses its Homecoming game to rival Miles College. The Golden Tigers had been on a roll with a 3-game winning streak.  But its lack of offense in Saturday’s game doomed the Golden Tigers and broke the winning streak. No matter how hard they tried, the Golden Tigers drew penalties and could not even capitalize on the three interceptions. Tuskegee’s offense could not score a running touchdown during the whole game. Our golden tiger mascot finally has a name!  The school held a “Name Our Tiger” campaign and more than 3,000 votes were cast. After weeks and weeks of advertising and voting and sorting through all of the many suggestions, it has finally been decided.  The name was announced during the Homecoming pre-game show on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019. No more, “Hey You,” or “Hey Tiger.”  Now you can call him by his name. Homecoming – Skegee Style!!

Excitement is in the air! Students on campus have been gliding along with a list of Homecoming activities all week for students. The Golden Voices Concert Choir kicked it off with the Gospel Concert. Then, on-the-yard activities kept the ball rolling. The comedy show on Tuesday night was hilarious. Desi Banks and Darren Brand had us rolling in the aisles. TU Women’s Basketball opens the season in Montevallo

The Tuskegee University women’s basketball team will officially open the 2019-2020 season Friday in Montevallo at the Gulf South/SIAC Challenge with its first opponent being Auburn University – Montgomery (AUM) at 5 p.m. The game marks the third straight year the teams have been paired for season their respective season openers. TU is coming off a 78-73 exhibition win over NCAA Division I opponent, Georgia State out of the Sun Belt Conference. Tuskegee Baseball hosts its annual World Series Classic

Tuskegee University head baseball coach, Reginald Hollins has the rosters set for the 2019 Fall World Series Classic, which is set for Saturday, Nov. at Washington Field. First Pitch for the best of three series is at 12 p.m. with game two getting underway at 3 p.m.  The third and final game will be an if necessary contest starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday. What do I call you?

For as far back as we can remember, our Tiger mascot has not had a name.  He has been called the “Tiger”, or “TU Tiger”, or “Golden Tiger”, or even “Hey You in the Suit”.  But now the wheels are turning to find our Tiger a name.  So, a naming contest was held that allowed students, faculty, staff, alumni, and fans to suggest possible names for our feisty golden mascot.
