President of Mr TU Advisory Committee speaks on leaving your mark
The following is the complete speech of Tori Sisson, president of the Mr. Tuskegee Advisory Committee. This was recited during the Mr. TU Pageant on Feb. 13.
Good evening, my name is Tori Sisson a senior majoring in History with a minor in Animal Science. During the reign of Marc McMillan as your Mr. Tuskegee I have served as the President of the Mr. Tuskegee Advisory Committee.
I am so humbled to have the opportunity to stand before you this evening and give thanks.
If only I could ensure that these words of gratitude would reach every single one of you who provided the support that was much needed.
When you were called to vote you came to the polls, when funds were needed so that students from Booker T Washington High School could take their ACT's you donated, when we held a fundraiser to send Marc to compete for the title of Mr. HBCU you were the ones who helped us raise over five thousand dollars!
Only by the favorable winds of the Divine and the generous support of Tuskegee University could we accomplish all those things we set out to achieve.
Many thanks are due to our wonderful SGA and most splendid president Jesica Holley, the assistance of Dr. Anekwe, Ms. Kim Ortiz, the generosity of former Miss Tuskegee Christel August Haygood, and the undying love and support of my close friends who get dragged along when things need to be accomplished: Brooke Moore-White and Sika Shiel;
We could not do this without the strength and support of the
outstanding members of the Mr Tuskegee advisory committee and especially, the much needed
and appreciated time from our first and second gentlemen Osei Hill and Bruce James; my mother Darlene Marie Carter for the savvy she instilled in me that allowed me to be competent enough for this daunting task, my comrade and my friend, our Mr. Tuskegee, Marc McMillan for allowing me to serve beside him, and the all loving Creator who makes this possible.
If I did not speak your name please charge the error to my head and not my heart.
To the next court I wish you well and much success. I ask that you never forget that we will always be here to guide and assist you. With the insurance of our help, I request on behalf of the Mr. Tuskegee advisory committee that you continue the legacy we are leaving.
You absolutely need an advisory committee and a strong relationship with your SGA and your advisors.
We ask that you live in the Mr. Tuskegee suite because we fought so adamantly for it.
We implore you to continue the Leave Your Marc Fashion show as an interscholastic fundraiser and networking opportunity among all of the historically black colleges and universities.
We strongly suggest that you carry yourself with the certain
compassion and grace that is carried by a Strong Black man who acknowledges that he is a role model and the ideal of the Tuskegee Gentleman.
I call you men of our future court to action PLEASE Leave Your Marc.
