Taking A Knee For Justice

THE ARON W. HENDERSON/GETTY IMAGES During the War of 1812, the lawyer and amateur poet Francis Scott Key wrote a poem about the events of the attack at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, MD.   This turned out to be what Americans call the National Anthem and what is considered the war cry for freedom in this country. On August 26,2016, during the San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers pre-game ceremonies quarterback Colin Kaepernick sat down during the play of the anthem. He told reporters that the reason why he didn’t stand was to bring awareness to the current issues […]

Lacrosse the Yard

Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in America. When you watch college lacrosse, you expect to see the powerhouse names like John Hopkins, Maryland, and Duke who have the most established programs in the country; however, when you think of a HBCU with a powerhouse lacrosse team, you will probably scratch your head. Your confusion is understandable. Prior to Hampton becoming the first HBCU to field a Division 1 lacrosse team, there were only 4 other programs in the country. Howard stands as the only HBCU in Division 1 women’s lacrosse. Delaware State also has a women’s program. […]

Loyalty: The Long Lost Virtue

Loyalty, and the absence of it, has reigned as one of the most trended social themes amongst our generation. Its frequency of surfacing within our conversations is almost instinctive–it is almost completely embedded within our cultural vernacular. Loyalty is popular among conversation, but foreign in action; craved, but distasteful to display; and expected, but naively misunderstood. Because of this, we have been placed in this perpetual cycle of expectation and disappointment. This has produced a social atmosphere where deceit has become more admirable, with musical influences that encourage the behavior, and even humorous, with memes and hashtags titled #WasteHisTime2016 and […]
